Awards + Recognition
Australian Trucking Association
“The Outstanding Contribution to the Australian Trucking Industry Award went to the Newcastle and Hunter Region Road Transport Awareness Group, which runs the annual Newcastle Truck Show.
“Now in its 15th year, the show continues to be a great success and has helped raise $720,000 for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter,” the ATA says.
In announcing the winners, Australian Trucking Association (ATA) Chairman Trevor Martyn told convention delegates it was not hard to see why they won.
“Listening to the winners speak on the night provides a strong indication of why they won—they all have tremendous passion for our industry and an uncompromising commitment to its improvement,” Martyn says.
Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport in Australia
The Newcastle & Hunter Region Road Transport Awareness Day Event won the Annual Achievement Award from the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport in Australia (Northern NSW Region).
As a Northern NSW Achievement winner we were automatically entered in the CILTA National Achievement of the Year Awards which is held later on in the year.
Westpac Rescue Helicopter
“The Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service operates as part of the NSW Emergency Services.
The Helicopter Service provides a service to over one million people, covering a region of 132,000 square kilometres.
Each year the Helicopter Service performs over 1250 missions, rescuing people from accident scenes and transporting critically ill patients to large tertiary hospitals, primarily the John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle and the Base Hospital in Tamworth.
The annual operating budget of the Service is approximately $12m. Each mission flown by the Service costs between $5,000 and $10,000. The costs of running the Service are met by NSW Health which provides approximately 50% of the annual operating budget. The remainder comes from the community through sponsorship and fundraising activities.
The annual donation by the NAHRRTAG is an important part of this fundraising effort and is highly valued by the Service.”
